How to Set Up a VPN Without Telegram or an App Store (2026)
Almost every VPN service starts a newcomer the same way: message our bot on Telegram. While the messenger is at hand, that is convenient. It also has a price you discover at the worst possible moment: without Telegram there is no account, no payment and no subscription link — not on a work laptop with no messenger installed, not on someone else's computer, not on a TV.
Here the whole path runs in an ordinary browser: the site, the sign-up, the payment, the dashboard, the subscription link. Telegram is one of the ways in, not the only door. Below is what that changes in practice, step by step.
Bot path versus website path
- Through a bot. You need a messenger account, the app installed, and the messenger in front of you. The subscription link arrives as a chat message and lives in that conversation — lose it in the history and you go hunting.
- Through the website. You need a browser. The account is created with an email, or in one click with Telegram — your choice. The subscription link sits in the dashboard, reachable from any device where you are signed in.
- Why it matters. A managed work computer, a borrowed laptop, a TV, a child's tablet, an old phone with no messenger — on all of them setting up stays possible.
The whole setup in a browser: five steps
- 1Open the sign-up page and create an account with an email — thirty seconds, no phone confirmation, no card on file.
- 2Top up the balance in the dashboard. An account in US dollars pays by card, or by PayPal or Apple Pay where they are available, from $5; a rouble account also takes Russian cards and SBP.
- 3Press “Add a device” and answer “Which device are you connecting?”.
- 4Copy the subscription link — it appears immediately, on its own line.
- 5Install a client and paste the link into “Import from clipboard”. That is the whole setup.
Note what is missing from that list: installing a messenger, chatting with a bot, waiting for a human to reply, and switching your app store country. Which client to install on which platform is covered in choosing a VPN client.
Where to get the client if the app store is not an option
The second place a newcomer usually gets stuck is the app store. Happ publishes straight to GitHub, and the installers download from there without a store account and without changing your region:
- Windows: setup-Happ.x64.exe
- macOS: our own app from the download page (macOS 12 or later); the reserve is Happ.macOS.universal.dmg — one build for Apple Silicon and Intel
- Linux: deb, rpm and an Arch package
- Android: INCY or Happ from Google Play; without Google Play, the Happ .apk is in the cabinet under “Devices” → “Apps”
- iPhone and iPad: without changing the region — our own app through TestFlight (iOS 16 or later); INCY (removed from the Russian App Store on 27.10.2026) and Happ need an Apple ID of another country
What if the account already exists via Telegram
Nothing is lost. An email can be attached to the same account in the dashboard — balance, devices and links stay exactly as they were, and a second way in appears. From then on you sign in with whatever is at hand: the email on a work computer, Telegram on a phone. One account, not two.
Telegram itself not connecting? Telegram not connecting in Russia has a table of what you see and what to do.
FAQ
Can I set up a VPN without already having a VPN?
Yes. The site, sign-up, payment and dashboard open directly in a browser; no intermediate connection is needed. The client itself downloads from the developer's release page on GitHub.
Is Telegram required to use the service?
No. Telegram is one sign-in method alongside email. The account, the payment and the subscription link are all available through the website with no messenger installed.
Do I need to change my App Store or Google Play region?
For Windows, macOS, Linux and Android — no, the apps download straight from GitHub. On an iPhone it depends on the client: our own app through TestFlight needs no region change, while INCY (removed from the Russian App Store on 27.10.2026) and Happ need an Apple ID of another country.
What is a subscription link and why is it better than a config file?
It is a single HTTPS URL the client uses to fetch and refresh the server list on its own. A config file would have to be moved by hand and replaced on every change; a link updates itself.
Can I connect on a computer where I am not allowed to install anything?
The subscription link works in any client, including portable builds that run without installation. If the machine's policy forbids running third-party software, that is a rule to respect rather than a limit to work around.
How many devices does one account cover?
Up to 100 devices, each with its own subscription link. Billing is per connected device rather than per account.
